Christmas Walk

Every year the Kindergarten Classes go on a walk to the Zehnle House directly behind my classroom. Mr. and Mrs. Zehnle are members of The Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens. I started this Annual Walk many years ago when their granddaughter Sophie was in my Pre-K class at CCLS. Mr. Zehnle goes all out and decorates his house with wreaths, lights, the Nativity, presents, and opens his garage with a Santa's Workshop. The children will take a clipboard with items to graph for a Math activity.
We will go on our walk on Tuesday. It usually only takes about 30 minutes. It is one of my favorite activities to share with our classes and I look forward to this tradition every year! We will have both teachers and both assistants available for our walk. Please let me know if you do not want your child to participate by Tuesday morning. Thanks!

A Note from Mrs. Knost:

Kindergarten PE is off to a great start! It’s hard to believe we finished the first quarter of school already.  The students have learned classroom procedures and expectations and seem to be enjoying learning new activities and exercises.

The first quarter we talk a lot about ‘bubble space’ (personal space) and practice keeping it as we move in class. They use it while running laps, practicing locomotor skills, and doing creative movements while moving where they choose. After they mastered keeping bubble space, we began playing the PE favorite - tag. Some of the fun tag games we’ve played this quarter are: Here comes the Fox, tunnel tag, toilet tag, hot dog tag, banana tag, and clothespin tag.  They’ve also worked on tempo and moving at different speeds.  Using this, they are working on endurance in running laps for warm up, by saving their ‘fast for last’.

They have also learned many jumping exercises: straddle jumps, ski jumps, scissor jumps, and jumping jacks.

Some strengthening exercises they’ve learned and will revisit throughout the year are: sit-ups, floor touches, shoulder touches, burpees, mountain climbers, plank jacks, side pushups, and leg lifts.

They spent some days working on rolling ball skills and had a fun bowling station day.  We also worked on kicking and some soccer skills. Some other fun activities they have played are: Beat the Ball, Rock Paper Scissors laps, Race to the cone, and Leaping lily pads.

The second quarter will focus on hand eye coordination with balloons and balls.  We will work on striking, catching, and some basketball skills. I also have some Holiday themed activities planned.

-Nancy Knost

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! As the season begins to change, the weather will change as well. If your child brings in a jacket, sweater, or a sweatshirt, please make sure you label the inside with their name in case (when) they misplace it! Thanks :)

Parent Teacher Conferences:
October 24th will be an early release day, and the 25th we will have no school for parent teacher conferences. Please make sure you plan accordingly. I am looking forward to meeting with each family to go over your student's first quarter progress!

Grocery Ads
The students really enjoyed cutting out grocery ads. We will be using store ads throughout the year. If you have any ads you would like to bring in, we would appreciate it! Thanks for your help!

Veterans Day Celebration:

This Veterans Day, November 11th, it is our distinct honor to recognize and celebrate our country's service men and women for their faithful service to our country!

Celebration Program at 8:25am
Please join us to honor our heroes at a special program put on by our elementary students.

Veteran Reception at 9:15am
We invite veterans and active military members to attend a 4th grade led, light breakfast reception following the celebration.

Help us spread the word by inviting active military members or retired veterans to this special event. Let's pack the church at the Webster campus to honor these men and women! Veterans should click the link to RSVP

Blessings on your week!
In Him,

Mrs. Kaber
