A Note from Mrs. Kaber:

Wheel-a-Thon- Our Kindergarten classes will be hosting our annual Wheel-a-thon on Monday, September 25th from 9:30-10:30 am. Each child can bring a bike, scooter, roller-skates or anything with wheels to help raise money to sponsor a child to go to school. With your help, we are trying to raise over $250 per class. We sent home information with a money envelope for people to sponsor your child in the wheel-a-thon. Our goal is at least $10 per child to reach our sponsor goal. Ask grandparents, coworkers, family, and friends and see how many people can help with our kindergarten project! If you would like to come and cheer on our kindergarteners as we make laps around the parking lot, feel free to help make signs and assist with pulling bikes etc. out to the parking lot. We can't wait!
**Please bring your students "wheels" around the back of the building behind our classroom windows. We do not want students bringing these items in through the front doors. Thank you for understanding! After the event, please take your students wheels home with you. If you are unable to make the event, the items will be behind our classroom in back of the building at the end of the day. We will not be bringing the items out to carline as it will hold everyone up.

End of the Day/Car Line- While I enjoy speaking face to face with parents and talking with parents about their student's day, please be mindful that I am unable to stand and chat for the safety of the students and for the goal of keeping the pick-up line moving. My priority is making sure I am watching my class and getting the students in the correct vehicle and in a timely manner. If your student has a day that I need to speak with you about, I will either call home during the day or email you about the situation. If you absolutely need to talk with me, email me, and we can set up an appointment to chat. Thank you for your cooperation and respecting the time of other families and myself.

Friday Fun Days- Every Friday your student may bring a stuffed animal to school for quiet reading/Flashlight Friday. This needs to be a soft plush type of animal and not a hard toy. We are having students bring toys to school when it is not for Mystery letter bag time or Fun Friday. We do not want students to be upset if items are lost or broken.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out!

In Him,

Mrs. Kaber

A Note from PE:

Kindergarten PE is off to a great start! It’s hard to believe we finished our 5th week of school already.  The students are learning what is expected in class and seem to be enjoying learning new activities and exercises.  The first quarter we talk a lot about ‘bubble space’ (personal space) and practice keeping it as we move in class. They use It while running laps, and practicing locomotor skills and creative movements while moving where they choose. After they mastered keeping bubble space, we played our first tag game called “Here comes the Fox”.  They loved this game. We also worked on Tempo and moving in different speeds.  Using this, they are working on endurance in running.  Sometimes I roll a die to see how may laps they will run for warm-up, if it is a high number, they’ve learned to pace themselves by running slow at first, then medium speed, and saving their fast for last.  They are doing so well – many can run all 6 laps without walking by pacing themselves! They have also learned jumping jacks, sit-ups, and another abdominal exercise called Floor touches.  In the upcoming weeks, I will teach more strengthening exercises, tag games, cooperative activities, and kicking skills.

If you have any questions, or your student needs to be dismissed from PE for any reason, please reach out to me at nknost@ccls-stlouis.org.

A Note from Mrs. Kaber:

Dot Day-

Friday, September 15th, is International Dot Day! This is a special day to celebrate the character, Vashti, in the story “The Dot.” Peter H. Reynolds, the author and illustrator, released this book on September 15, 2013.

Vashti is a young girl who didn’t think she was a good artist. Her art teacher encouraged her to just make a mark. This story has inspired millions of children and teachers. The story is used by teachers to instill creativity and confidence in their students.

CCLS Kindergarten will wear polka dots on Friday to celebrate Dot Day. Listed below are a few guidelines.

  1. Your child can wear polka dot shirts, sweaters or skirts.

  2. Your child can wear polka dot socks or hair accessories.

  3. Your child’s polka dot items must be school appropriate (ex. No pajamas, costumes, etc).

We will be reading different Peter H. Reynolds books all week and will be doing fun activities to celebrate creativity and confidence!

Wheel-a-Thon- Our Kindergarten classes will be hosting our annual Wheel-a-thon on September 25th from 9:30-10:30 am. We can't wait!

Optional Homework- Each week your student will start receiving some optional work with heart words or flash words and some fluency passages etc. If you would like to complete the work with your child, they can earn punches on their punch cards. I don't have a deadline for the homework. Your child can work at their own pace. Your child will also receive a reading log. Each night your child looks at books, gets read to, or reads to themselves, they can color in a picture (1 per night). At the end of the month, they can turn it in for a prize!
